“And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” -Romans 8:27
Paul continues by explaining how we are helped in our weakness; and he offers a powerful word of encouragement to this end.
The Spirit who makes intercession for us does so according to the will of God. This means he helps us by praying on our behalf in a way that is agreeable to the will of God; therefore, we can have confidence that God, who searches hearts, knows what is the mind of the Spirit who is interceding for us.
What may be of further encouragement to us is the fact that in 1 Corinthians 2:10–11, Paul tells the Corinthians that
…the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
From these two passages, we get a partial glimpse into the Trinitarian nature of God. There is a mutually deep and abiding intimacy between God the Father and God the Spirit. Since God knows the mind of the Spirit and the Spirit knows the thoughts of God, and further, that the Spirit intercedes in accordance with the will of God, we can be assured that the Spirit’s intercession for us will be effective.
